Finally had it with the piece of shit Blackberry and took it back to my service provider who of course say its the responsibility of the manufacture, but you give it away free and make me sign a contract! Option one: Be without any phone for a week. Option two: Pay 30 pounds "emergency" insurance and then 6 pounds a month till the end of the contract!! Well option 2 was way to go as I know this replacement Blackberry will die in a few months anyway, at least they said they would courier me a new one by 1pm tomorrow. We shall see I ain't holding my breath. Service in England nonexistent!!

Rocked the Friday evening with a good curry from Ganges and then fell asleep watching Fight Club... Something a little more rock and roll, a shot of Jubliee that ran in this week's Kerrang!

I love it when bands are good sports!! Slaves To Gravity when beyond the call of duty for their introducing feature... Can't wait to see it in print and I don't want to give away too much until it runs although I will say the Fish got the creeps when they looked toward camera!! Perhaps that's why she turned away in fright?? (pictured)

Took some abuse at the office and was accused of subconsciously lip synching to Limp Bizkit... Yeah well I bet I wasn't the only one!! Hooked up with Scoot for a few drinks which turned into a great evening. Started out at the Ben Crouch's and then over to the 100 Club to see the King Blues. The Brighton show was better but only because the crowd at the 100 Club were a bit lame... Dragged the band back to the Ben Crouch's and closed it down with a few K! peeps.

Another full day at the computer... Umm more LOG and water!

Here's the We Are The Ocean feature from this week's Kerrang! It's always fun going barefoot in the sea on a cold January afternoon!!

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Spent another full day on the p-shop, finally getting the Madina Lake shots finished. Did get a break to head over to the Concorde 2 for Anti-Flag and The King Blues. Love getting to a venue and not being on the list especially when the guy at the door goes out of his way to be particularly unhelpful! Walked around back found their TM who was more than happy to help. Managed to squeeze in to catch the last few songs of the King Blues who were fantastic. Did a few shots of Anti-Flag and then had a chat to Jamie and Fruitbag before calling it a night. A shot of the mayhem that ended the King Blues set...

Literally spent the entire day at the computer... Bored now! A little secret into getting through hours of retouch. Water and Lamb Of God!

Looks like there's a schedule conflict!! Shit! Hate giving up jobs. One upside being asked personally on both counts and going back to Vancouver sooner than I ever thought...

Sunday, February 24, 2008

Scarlet and Kevin came down today and the four of us went to Love's which was again fantastic. I have a new favourite restaurant to eat at. Should go try the other Brighton restaurant that Gordon Ramsay fixed!

Left the Fish and the Borg's to enjoy the DEP while I headed up to Brixton for Megadeth, which was a marathon to get to today. No Victoria line equals very long bus ride to the academy. Tried to sort out a minicab before going to the venue asking one local police officer who said don't trust any of the companies in this area! Great! Thanks for instilling me with some confidence...

Got to the venue and sorted it all out. Figured with Megadeth the light and access was going to be good well it was the complete opposite!?!? There were some weird little square lights in the monitors that ended up casting so much shadow around Dave's mouth he looked like he had Charlie Chaplin facial hair. Was not bad when he did a guitar solo though...
Caught a train home and finished the evening figuring out my schedule in two weeks to see if I can reply yes to a type of photography job I haven't done in a while!! Details to follow...

Saturday, February 23, 2008

Went to the LA2, Mean Fiddler no idea what it's called anymore! Dillinger Escape Plan was the show and they were great. Amazing musicians but for me personally I'd like to hear more songs! They had the loudest sing-a-long crowd I'd heard in ages when they played the popular ones!! And it would be nice if all people had good gig etiquette, that's all I'm going to say about that. How about a tic tac for starters! But it helps when Jeff the guitar player hops up on the balcony to play a tune and sort out the idiots...

Friday, February 22, 2008

A morning spent at the computer and then in for the joint Matt & Raz birthday at the Phoenix club which was a great little venue. Might have to become a member... Laid the Noddy card on Matt who knew there was a badge included without even opening it!

Left pretty tipsy with the Fish and Caren and we made the drunken decision of Ed's Diner. And it continued inside where I asked for the cheese chips with gravy, weird though it didn't turnout like a poutine! (Cheese Curds would have been right!) After that couldn't do anything but roll on home. Here is another favourite of the Blackout that ran in this week's K!

Thursday, February 21, 2008

Went up to the Old Street area for Carly's Birthday dinner and drinks. Made her laugh with a horrendous card that the Fish and I specially selected this past weekend. It was a bad greeting card shopping spree! Lookout tomorrow Mr.Hughes!! Speaking of which ran into that bad boy at the Barfly where I went after dinner. Ghost of a Thousand was playing to a sold out crowd and how good were they! I only lasted about 2 songs upfront in the mayhem but it was enough to get some pics. Even Mem was laughing at me at one point!

And yeah I know it's the wrong way but it is the infamous zebra crossing pictured from yesterday!! Oh and Carly was also complaining that when she googles her name all that comes up is this site. Well CARLY MAILE here's another page for you on Google!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Jumped on a very early train to get over to the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Brigade was doing a live session in the "Beatles Studio" for Satellite Radio. I had never been there before and there was a pretty cool vibe. After the session we did a quick couple of shots outside and it was amazing how many tourists were about! Will was nice enough to take a shot of me stepping out onto Abbey Road!!

Spent the rest of the day at the office working on a few images and then a crowd of us went to see Witchsorrow a "Doom" metal band at the 100 Club. Now Witchsorrow aren't just any band because they feature the usually pissed and rocking out Nick Ruskell aka Necroskull! They only did 5 songs but they were great and I got a guitar pic!!

So here's a pic of Necroskull pissed and rocking out in all his Gumby glory!! Doom metal at it's best!

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Had troubles getting up this morning, which was weird, as I didn't think I drank that much last night! Today was a long day of editing and retouching at the computer. Had an email from Jared Leto today thanking me for the look of the finished feature last week which was nice. But this one caught me by surprise at the end of the day... The cover of tomorrow's Kerrang! with well known Canadian "Rock Star" on it!

Monday, February 18, 2008

Did a shoot with Kids In Glass Houses today at Holborn studios. There was a bored work experience girl at Kerrang! so she came along to help. Hopefully the shoot wasn't too boring for Charlotte as there wasn't too much to do! Shoot looks pretty good and need to get on it ASAP as it's going in next week's issue...

Hung about the rest of the day before going to the Gibson offices where the Answer played a rocking quick set at the Guitar Hero party. After they were done we all rushed over to Airbourne who were playing the Borderline. By the time we got there the only room left was at the back by the merch tables! Absolutely packed but did manage to get a shot of us messing about (Daniel Steel!) as we couldn't quite see the band but they sounded pretty good!!! As Paul said it would have been better if they had actually done an ACDC cover...

Sunday, February 17, 2008

Put in a good day working on a few things of the promo variety with the help of the Fish, should have everything back by next week which will be nice. Found a shot of Metallica from a few years ago that I had completely forgot about, which I thought turned out not bad! (above) I think it was one of the last gigs I did on film.

Watched Edward Scissorhands, which I had never seen before. Great movie and it's funny to see that the Tim Burton style hasn't really changed much in the last 18 years!

Saturday, February 16, 2008

Running around day at least it was sunny and warm, well as long as you weren't in the shade... Got up early did a few things and got the car back sneakily before the market started. Realized didn't need a few things and had to wait till market finished to return them... That worked well!!

Found a good timewaster and bought some puzzle books with the Fish and ended up lying on the couch with Codeword and Kakuro!! Finally getting some rest but by the end of the day was really itching to do a bit of work. Will get back to it tomorrow. Found this shot where it shouldn't have been while looking for portfolio shots today...

Friday, February 15, 2008

Top secret things were hatched and schemed today! Well not really...

Thursday, February 14, 2008

Did a shoot with the band Fucked Up. They are fellow Canadians so we talked about Vancouver and Toronto. Damien mentioned how much he loves the record stores in Vancouver; come to think of it there are some good ones!! Although he'd never heard of Scrape Records, which is the best one! During the shoot they were well up for the piggy idea, which was the brainchild of Caroline Fish. A test shot from the shoot, which I think makes my hand look a little religious...

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

The backlog of work is shrinking. Got a good handle on it today but as always there are a few things that interrupt the process. Finally began working on pulling images together for the one thing I have slacked the most with since I moved to England no not syndication... Had an email thanks from 30 STM's pr, and manager which was nice! That doesn't happen too often. Here's an outtake from the Leeds show that didn't run in Kerrang! this week. Had a load of images ending up all over the Internet and bootlegged recently so thought I would include a little message and see if that helps...

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Ran around doing a few errands today of the boring kind. Looking for new travelling cases and picking up injured lenses. Had a nice lunch at Satsuma with Scarlet and the Fish. Good food wise but when I compared the price to Vancouver sushi I had to forget about it right away!! Found an old image of Dimebag in the latest Guitar World that was credited to my old agent. Better go fix that now! Here's the cover of tomorrow's Kerrang! with 30 Seconds To Mars.

Monday, February 11, 2008

Spent most of the day going through images and took a little break to have a go with Guitar Hero III! It's nice to see some the images getting used that were shot what seems like ages ago. I've been really happy with the results from all shoots in the last month. Interested to see how the Blackout will turn out, as there are loads of great shots from that shoot!! Here's another one of Gav catching some massive air...

Sunday, February 10, 2008

More visitors today as Laurence, Alice, and Max along with Fran and Mikey came down. The whole lot of us went out for a disappointing lunch at Carluccio's. I think it was the portion sizes more than anything else, or perhaps what we couldn't work out if it was a maggot or not in one of the dishes! Wandered around the beach and then came home. Had a great home cooked dinner and stayed in. Ended up watching season 3 and 4 of Peep Show, which ended up being quite dark by the finale!! Here's a shot from Friday after shoot number 1 with Mateo and Matthew from Madina Lake.

Saturday, February 09, 2008

A school of Fish came over for a visit today so what better place to go than Love's Fish Restaurant of Gordon Ramsay clean-up fame. Well Ramsay and Alan Love did a great job, as that was one of the best meals I've had in since moving to England! Honest. Simple. Well-cooked local ingredients! Had an incredibly mellow day afterwards, which was nice and needed as this past week has been a tiring one. A funny photo from yesterday of Paul and Fishy at Brixton Academy.

Friday, February 08, 2008

Left early today as a very busy one lay ahead. Started off with two shoots the first with Madina Lake at the Covent Garden Hotel in a nice small dark room. Great guys and they always make it go smoothly by willingness to put the effort in.

Dropped off the rentals and then over to the Defectors Weld in Shepherd's Bush and met up with the lovely Paul Xavier for shoot number two. Did a quick shoot with Jim Sturgess an actor who was a top guy. Because of the Vegas theme of the movie (21) he was promoting figured the cards would work well... One of the outtakes above which is probably my favourite!

Headed back into to the west end, had a quick Pizza Express dinner with Carly, and then caught with the Kerrang! crew and Simon before heading over to Brixton Academy. Arrived in time to see Fightstar and bumped into Omar afterwards who was in good spirits. Saw Madina Lake and Coheed And Cambria with a little drama on the side. Saw Nathan afterwards who was wearing what I called Ralph Macchio's old headband and then headed over to the after party did one lap and called it a night. Too long of a day!

Thursday, February 07, 2008

Woke up early in Brighton and left the bus hours before anyone else. Had a recovery day spent mostly at the computer on the p-shop. Worked through all the images of the Blackout from last night and there are some really good ones in there. Posted is one of my favourites!! Went to bed early, as tomorrow will be a long one with two shoots and the K! tour's final night in Brixton.

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

Up early and off to Manchester today to do an On the Road feature with the Blackout... Arrived around 230 and met up with Hayley and Emma. Headed over to the venue and did a quick shoot with the band and got the fans all involved in a zombie kind of way. We basically did all the funny candid pictures up to and after the gig! Capped the day off with the classic shot of the band doing the Iron Maiden at the end of the show. It worked out quite nicely as the band were on their way to Brighton after the gig so hitched a ride on the bus and even had a bunk, which was nice!!

Passed out watching the best of SNL: Will Ferrell. Didn't think anyone had heard of SNL over here!!

Tuesday, February 05, 2008

A tired draining day spent retouching in p-shop of 30 Seconds To Mars. Looking good let’s just hope the printers don't mess it up too badly! Had to finish everything today as I am off to Manc to do a touring feature with the Blackout, which is guaranteed comedy. Even received a text from Gavin saying "Looking forward to some photographic japery tomorrow." Don't worry it will happen!!

Here's a shot of London from Sunday's bumpy approach with Iceland Air, surprised there wasn't any movement blur!

Monday, February 04, 2008

Over slept my alarm but luckily we still made the flight. (Can see why with a huge comfy bed like this!) Found it weird how far the taxi dropped us off at the Glasgow airport but then I remembered why.

Spent the rest of the day getting home and dumping all the images to the computer. So many things to go through and so little time...

Sunday, February 03, 2008

Didn't quite pull a Jack Bauer today but pretty close... Up at 5am for the early pickup to get over to the international Iceland airport. It was amazing how packed Reykjavik was with people still partying in the streets!! Took off around 9am (still pitch black out) and had a very bumpy approach into Heathrow. Noticed we were the second to last plane to land on that runway as the one after us looked like it almost landed on its wing! Collected up all my bags and then dropped them at the left luggage counter.

Waited around for about an hour and a half for Nick and Matt to turn up and then we checked in for our flight to Glasgow for Bullet For My Valentine this evening... Checked into the very swanky Radisson had a quick nap and then it was off to the gig. Got some great shots of all the bands tonight including Still Remains and Skindred. Now I want to know why Skindred aren't bigger than they are. Their presence on stage was immense, haven't seen a band first on command a crowd like that for quite sometime! Even bumped into Benji the singer after the show who had the winning personality to match!!

Couldn't stop laughing for a couple of reasons tonight: while shooting onstage kept catching a glimpse of Ruskell not paying attention to the gig he was supposed to review. (pictured!) And the other was joining him and Matt on the balcony to see a kid moshing who had ripped down one of the no pushing/moshing signs holding it up going nuts in the pit!! A very fun vibe tonight I'm sure it will be reviewed well. Finished off with a little pool at the hotel and then crashed out... It was almost as fun as the Bullet show that Matt, Larissa and I did about this time last year!

Saturday, February 02, 2008

Had a good sleep in as the shoot wasn't until noon and I can see why as it was still dark out at 10am! Met up with Paul, Simon, and Kari and met Minus for a fantastic burger at a tiny "joint" (reminded me of In and Out) by the shipyard which Kari had picked as the first location. If it hadn't been for the hurricane winds in -15 it would have been a great place to shoot as attempts to set-up a lights were futile. We were told this uncharacteristic weather for Reykjavik at this time of year!! Hmmmm...

Drove across town (about five minutes!) to an open waterfront area that was a little more sheltered from the ocean winds and apparently right across from Bjork's house. Did the shoot in 20 minutes, as the cold was still unbearable even in the breeze and sun. But a big thanks had to go out to Kari and Paul who braved the weather to help hold lights and Paul to take this pic!! A wimpy Mr.Young stayed in the car but I bet he tried to film the pod cast from there.

Dropped everything back at the hotel and filmed the pod cast for Simon. Met up with We Made God and did another quick 10 minute shoot in the cold and then we could relax. Well it was off to Jesus Christ Superstar in Icelandic because Krummi of Minus was playing the lead role. I don't know the story in English but it was still entertaining! Only had enough energy for a few drinks after as I had a 530 pick-up for the airport in the morning... Hurray!?!?

Friday, February 01, 2008

Need sleep!! Haven't had a good nights sleep in a while and don't see one until next week!! Made my way over to Heathrow to catch a flight to Iceland. Doing a shoot with Minus tomorrow which should be good as the scenery when we came into land was amazing...

A really beautiful place and that myth about Swedish women being gorgeous is wrong, it applies to ICELAND.

Went to Paul and Simon's favourite bar or as they called it the media center. We then left to have dinner at a very swanky restaurant called Domo with a few of the guys from Sign. On the way there in the cold -15 weather we hung about outside to see the Northern Lights which were casting green all over the sky. Amazing it was to see couldn't really get a good photo of it so here's one of Simon and I messing about in Domo. (Pic by Paul B!) Ended up at a gig after dinner but called it an early night at 2am and left Paul and Simon to go all night in Reykjavik!
